The Third Micro-Season of Shōsho

Taka Waza o Narau (鷹乃学習) is the third micro-season within Shōsho, one of Japan's 24 seasonal divisions.

This micro-season marks the beginning of summer Doyō, the traditional eighteen-day period before the arrival of autumn. During this time, many people in Japan enjoy unagi (eel), especially on the Day of the Ox (Doyo no Ushi no Hi), a long-standing custom believed to help restore energy and stay healthy through the heat of summer.

About Japan's 72 Seasons

Japan has long observed the changing seasons through a traditional calendar that divides the year into 24 seasonal divisions, known as Sekki.

Each division is further divided into three micro-seasons, creating a total of 72 Seasons (Shichijūni-kō). Lasting only a few days each, these seasons capture the subtle changes in nature—from blooming flowers and singing insects to ripening fruits and shifting landscapes.
